Lion Diane first became involved with the Lions in New Harbour with the Community Five Lions Club in 2004. In 2006 she became an Associate Member of the Placentia Lions Club, after 4 years of attending Meetings in both Clubs, she transferred to the Placentia Lions Club in 2010. Lion Diane has excelled in both Clubs. She has held office in the clubs as President, Secretary, Treasurer and Tail-Twister. She has been Chairperson of the Club Purina Walk for Guide Dogs and the Christmas Happy Tree Program and worked on many other committees.

On the District level she has served 4 years as Zone Chair, Environmental Chair, Hearing & Speech Chair, Cultural & Community Chair and 2VDG. Lion Diane has also served on the Lion Max Simms Memorial Camp for five years, as camp Treasurer for two years and Fund Raising Chair for three years.

Lion Diane has completed the Multiple District Leadership Training, received both her Lions Bachelor’s Degree pin, and her Advanced Lions Leadership Institute pin from Lions Club International. She has completed the Masters Courses and is currently working on the Doctorate degree with the online Lions University.

She has been very active in the District Training serving as both a Trainer and participant. She has attended all District Conventions, many Multiple District Conventions every Zone meeting and also attended the USA/Canada Forum in 2015. 

In recognition to her service to the association, Lion Diane has received numerous awards, including Club Lion of the year twice, 100% President’s Award, Best District Chair twice, Best Zone Chair, District Lion of the Year, The International’s President’s Certificate of Appreciation twice, the International’s President’s Leadership Medal, the Lion Max Simms Memorial Camp Fellowship and in 2009 received the Melvin Jones Fellow from District N4. She recently received the Judge Brian Stevenson Fellowship from her club.

Lion Diane has three sons, all living in St. John’s. She works full time as the Office Manager with H & B Construction Ltd for the past 30 years. Serving with Lion Diane is her partner of twelve years Lion Mike Cooney. Lion Mike has three daughters and two grandchildren. He has been a Lion for over 25 years and served as Club President and District Zone Chair. Lion Mike has also received the Melvin Jones Fellow, the International President’s Zone Chair Award and the Lion Max Simms Memorial Camp Fellowship.

 
Together Lion Mike and Lion Diane have a combination of almost 40 years of experience in Lionism.
